In an op-ed in today’s Daily Tar Heel, I was asked how I came up with the name “The Daily Tar Heel.” It was not a bad idea at all. When I started The Daily Tar Heel in 2001, I thought of myself as a “tarheel.” When I said that, I wasn’t kidding. It seemed to fit.
My name is Andy, and I started The Daily Tar Heel in 2001. In the beginning, I was just a guy who wanted to know a lot about the world but who didnt know how to write. I realized that I was not a good writer, so I started writing about things I knew nothing about. I started asking my friends and colleagues all the questions I could think of about how the world works, what it’s like to be a Tar Heel, etc.
There’s a reason for that. I think everyone hates to write. Even people who write for a living, they are afraid of the word. That’s why I started The Daily Tar Heel. I asked all my friends and colleagues. They didn’t want to write about things they didnt know about, and they never thought they could. I felt that I had to write something about them, so I started writing about themselves.
Gartner is a professor at the University of Virginia with a M.A. in English and a Ph.D. in English. He is a blogger, a writer, a critic, and a novelist. His blogs include The Daily Tar Heel and The Daily Tar Heel Blog. He currently lives in Charlottesville, VA.
His life is a busy one, but he’s also a hard working writer. He writes science fiction novels, and he regularly contributes to genre magazines (such as Star Trek: The Magazine, Star Trek: The Magazine and The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction) as well as writing reviews for the trade magazines (such as Tor). His books have appeared in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Slate, and SF Signal among others.
gartner’s real name is Andrew Gartner, but due to the fact that his stories and reviews have been published in such popular genre magazines as The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, Tor, and Star Trek The Magazine, he is often referred to as Andy in print. His real name is Andrew Gartner.
Gartner grew up in New York City and currently lives in upstate New York. He is the author of the novella “The Big Sleep”, a Hugo Award nominee for Best Novella, and the author of the short story “The Book of Dreams”, a Hugo Award nominee for Best Short Story.
